I know I’m not the only one that sees just the one shoe in the road. Often, I’ll be driving or even walking down the street and see one shoe. Usually one tennis shoe. Just one. One shoe that makes me wonder what happened to make that person lose a shoe? Do they have the other shoe, still? Are they ok? From the way the shoe was lying in the middle of road it looked like something horrible happened and then, that person, well, then after the thing happened, they lost a shoe. The evidence states they didn’t go back for that shoe and the other one is still with them.
I always look for the other shoe, hoping to see it and then maybe decide that the person just took off their shoes, like, on purpose? That doesn’t make any sense, either, but I still always look for it. It is unsettling to see the one shoe in the street, but disturbing to not be able to find the other one. Because I love each and every pair of shoes in my life, I make up wild stories in my mind about how this person was walking and had to run from a rabid dog or person or insane MAGA supporter, and one shoe fell off in this debacle. This person’s life was at stake and everything depended on them getting away from the dog or person or dog-like idiot person chasing them and they just had to keep running with one shoe now. I hope they got away and they’re safe. I really do. I think about them, still.
Recently I saw one sock in a movie theater parking lot. Just one. Why just the one sock, though? What happened!? It’s not right because people don’t go to the movies to do their laundry and one sock falls out of their hamper as they are scurrying across the parking lot. Right? This is not a thing. I took a picture:
